Categories are used in two ways:
- (Most common) To tell iTunes and other sources where to categorize the show.
You can select multiple categories so that your show will appear in more places and reach more users. - To filter episodes in the same show into separate channels.
If, for example, a show includes both episodes about art and episodes about business, you can create channels for just the art episodes, just the business episodes, and for all episodes. This lets users who are only interested in one or the other subscribe to a channel that only includes the episodes they want. This is done by first, adding a category at the episode level, then at the channel level by filtering the channel with the episode categories. Only episodes with that category will appear in that filtered channel.
By default, AmperWave Podcasting includes all the standard categories used by iTunes, and you can add your own custom categories by following the steps in Creating a New Category.
If you have the appropriate permissions, you can view and edit categories and create new categories from the Categories sub-tab of the Settings tab of the Podcasting Console.
